Islamic view of the Last Judgment

In Islam, Yawm al-Qiyāmah "the Day of Resurrection" (Arabic: يوم القيامة‎) or Yawm ad-Din "the Day of Judgement" (Arabic: يوم الدين‎) is God's final assessment of humanity. al-Qiyāmah is also the name of the 75th surah of the Qur'an.

The sequence of events according to the most common understanding is the annihilation of all creatures, resurrection of the body and the judgment of all sentient creatures.

Final judgment forms one of the main themes of the Qur'an. Many Qur'anic verses, especially the earliest ones, are dominated by the idea of the nearing Day of Resurrection
Belief in al-Qiyāmah is considered a fundamental tenet of faith by most Muslims.[2] The trials and tribulations associated with it are detailed in both the Qur'an and the hadith, as well as in the commentaries of the Islamic expositors and scholarly authorities such as al-Ghazali, Ibn Kathir, Ibn Majah, Muhammad al-Bukhari, and Ibn Khuzaimah who explain them in detail. Every human, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, is held accountable for his or her deeds and are judged by God accordingly.[Qur'an 74:38].

The importance of the Last Judgement is underlined by the many references to it in the Qur'an and its many names. For example, it is also called "the Day of Reckoning",[Qur'an 71:18] "the Hour"[Qur'an 31:34][Qur'an 74:47], "Day of the Account"[Qur'an 72:130], "Day of the Gathering", "Day of the Reckoning", "Day of Distress"[Qur'an 74:9] and the "Great Announcement".

The Qur'an states that even the smallest acts of the believers will not be wasted.

[A]nyone who has an atom's worth of goodness will see it and anyone who has done an atom's worth of evil will also see it.[Qur'an 99:7]

Those whose belief in God shaped their correct perception on life, and who did good deeds and are faithful will be tested in this world but will be reward
in the hereafter if their deeds are deemed acceptable by Allah and vice versa.[Qur'an 2:62][3]

Barzakh is a sequence that happens after death, in which the soul separates from the body and then rest in a cold sleep state.

Judgment

During judgment, a man's or a woman's own book of deeds will be opened, and will be apprised of every action one did and every word one spoke (Qur'an 54.52-53). Actions taken during childhood are not judged. The account of deeds is so detailed that the man or woman will be in awe at how comprehensive the account is, such that even lesser and trivial deeds are included. Throughout judgment, however, the underlying principle is that of a complete and perfect justice administered by God. The accounts of judgment are also replete with the emphasis that God is merciful and forgiving, and that mercy and forgiveness will be granted on that day insofar as it is merited.

This is dissimilar to Christianity, where salvation is by the grace of God (Titus 2:11) through sharing with Jesus Christ the experience of crucifixion, death, and resurrection (Romans 6:4, Galatians 2:20, Romans 6:9-11), and salvation is not by deeds (Galatians 2:16, 2:21, 3:6-14). Islam, however, emphasizes that grace does not conflict with perfect justice.

The age of the hereafter or rest of eternity is the final stage commencing after the Day of Judgment and all of humanity has received their judgment from God. If they were righteous and did good deeds based on their own circumstances,regardless of professed religion, they go to Jannah (heaven) a state of bliss and if they have attained little in life, and were unrighteous in their actions—or were despite all evidence shown to them bent on denying the truth of life once it was presented to them—based on their own circumstances they shall go to Jahannam (a spiritual state of suffering). This stage of life commences officially after the embodiment of Death is brought up and is slain, thus Death dies literally, and no one will ever experience or behold the concept of Death everafter. Based on the verdict received which is brought upon by each person's individual deeds actions and circumstances in life the Day of Judgment which everyone is judged with the utmost sense of justice, each human will spend this stage of life in Heaven or Hell (which will be a place for purification of the soul so that one realizes the wrongs each has committed in life) . However, those in hell are eligible to go to the state of heaven after being purified by the state described as hell at a later time if they "had an atom's worth of faith in them" and the soul repentful. It is believed by many Muslims that a Muslim will end up in Jannah once their sins have been punished.

“You are all out of tricks now. I could either blow you up with my technique or I can pound you to death personally,” said Naruto. “Afterall that, he was still able to plan a counter,” said Pain.

t has been reported that an Indonesian woman is thought to have died of avian influenza.Officials have said that though they suspect that H5N1 was the cause of the death, the cause has not yet been confirmed. The woman died yesterday. If it turns out that she did in fact die of the bird flu, this will bring Indonesia's death toll since 2003 to 115.

Meanwhile, it was reported that a 21-year-old woman in China has been infected with avian bird flu. This is the 8th reported case in China this year. The young farmer is said to have contracted the infection by handling infected poultry.

Scientists are keeping an ever-watchful eye on the situation as there is great concern that if they do not get a handle on it, it could mutate to eventually be transmittable from human to human. Were that to happen, it could potentially cause a global pandemic killing millions of people.

It was reported yesterday that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awarded an $8.7 million dollar grant to help with the development of a vaccine. This just after 60,000 infected turkeys in Canada were put to death.

Gunmen kidnap American U.N. official in Pakistan

QUETTA, Pakistan (Reuters) - Gunmen abducted an American official of the U.N. refugee agency on Monday after shooting dead his driver in the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta, police said.

Police identified the official as John Solecki, head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Quetta. He was on his way to his office when gunmen intercepted his vehicle and opened fire.

"The gunmen have taken him with them after shooting his driver," Quetta police official Wazir Khan Nasir told Reuters.

There had been no claim of responsibility, Nasir said.

Witnesses said the vehicle crashed into the wall of a house after the gunman opened fire.

"We can confirm that the incident happened with the unfortunate death of the driver and the kidnapping of a senior colleague from the UNHCR," said a U.N. spokeswoman in Islamabad, Amena Ali Kamal.

She declined to give any more details.

Security had been stepped up at the main crossing point into Afghanistan at Chaman, 100 km (60 miles) northwest of Quetta, and at other points along the border to stop the kidnappers taking their hostage into Afghanistan, another police official said.

Incidents of kidnapping have increased in Pakistan over the past year, especially in the northwest in areas on the border with Afghanistan, where Islamist militants have abducted several foreigners.

Pakistani Taliban militants were believed to be responsible for the kidnapping of a Chinese engineer, and Polish engineer and two Afghan diplomats. All four were kidnapped in the northwest months ago and are still being held.

Quetta is the capital of Baluchistan province, which borders Afghanistan and Iran.

Both Taliban and separatist Baluch militants operate in the province where the UNHCR is helping Afghan refugees.

Obama calls meeting with top Democrats on stimulus

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Facing opposition from Republican lawmakers to parts of his economic recovery plan, President Barack Obama called Democratic Congressional leaders to a meeting on Monday to drive home his message of urgency.

With hundreds of thousands of Americans losing their jobs, many their homes, and a rapidly shrinking economy, Obama is under pressure to move swiftly to get his nearly $900 billion plan through Congress by mid-February.

Senior Republican senators warned on Sunday their party was unlikely to back the stimulus bill without changes to cut waste and to ensure the package provides an immediate boost to the deteriorating economy.

"The thing I want all of them (lawmakers) to remember, and the thing I am thinking of every single day, is the thousands of people being laid off from their jobs right now," Obama said in an interview with the NBC television network.

"They can't afford politics as usual and old habits are hard to break, but now is the time to break them because we have an urgent situation."

Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are due to meet House and Senate Democratic leaders at the White House on Monday. A Democratic Senate aide said Obama had called the meeting to discuss the next steps on the stimulus bill.

Brendan Daly, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said the president and Democratic leaders would be discussing their legislative agenda for the next few months.

Obama has held a series of meetings with Republican Congressional leaders since taking office on January 20 in an effort to win backing for his plan, which passed the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives without a single Republican vote last week.

The bill is now being considered by the Senate, where Democrats also have a majority.

"I've done extraordinary outreach to Republicans because they have some good ideas and I want to make sure those ideas are incorporated," Obama said.

While he does not need Republican votes to get the bill passed, winning their support is an early test of Obama's commitment to his campaign promise to try to end divisive politics.

Republicans are unhappy with some of the spending priorities in the bill, which proposes a mix of tax cuts, public works projects and direct aid to struggling states.

"I am confident that by the time we have the final package on the (Senate) floor we are going to see substantial support," Obama told NBC.

A number of U.S. companies announced layoffs last week and new figures showed the economy shrinking at its fastest rate in nearly 27 years. The number of Americans seeking jobless benefits hit a record high.
